Our partnerships with funding providers enable us to provide bursaries for short-term internships and graduate roles at certain times of the year.
→ Engineering Workplace Insights Scheme
Businesses in Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, and Doncaster are invited to participate in our Engineering Workplace Insight Placement Scheme. This initiative is purely for undergraduate Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering students who are eager to learn but currently possess limited engineering professional experience.
This is an excellent way to access new talent and potentially identify candidates for future summer or year-long placements if your circumstances allow.
The scheme
This opportunity involves a 70-hour (two-week) on-site placement taking place in July. Students are expected to be paid at least the National Minimum Wage, including a contribution of £1000 from the University. The University will initially pre-screen applications and provide a shortlist of suitable candidates. Host employers will then review the applications, arrange an informal discussion with selected students, and choose the most appropriate candidate for the placement.
The placement
We ask that you provide a meaningful experience relevant to the student's degree. It should offer genuine sector insight and could include job shadowing, project work, and hands-on tasks (i.e. using CAD software, analysing materials).
