These activities provide opportunities to build skills, provide social opportunities, enhance your future employability and can provide a productive break from study. Visit the extracurricular activities database to see some of the broad range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities available across the University.

The activities cover a range of skills from our Sheffield Graduate Attributes framework, attributes which the university community and external partners have agreed are likely to be particularly beneficial to academic success, personal development and employability.

Below is a selection of just some of the extracurricular activities available at The University of Sheffield.

Raising and giving

Committees of the Students’ Union

Our Students' Union has a number of committees that students can get involved in.

Our Liberation Committees play a vital role in the SU promoting the views and interests of, and organising activities for, specific sections of the SU student community. Not only are they the first point of contact (and a great place to meet) for students who identify as part of the group that the committee is set to represent, but they are also the key platforms to raise the voices of their members at our Liberation Forum and make campaigns happen.

The Students' Union also has Working Committees! These committees provide services and activities for all students of the University, or which benefit the wider community. From media, welfare and sport, to film, fundraising and events - working committees are run by students for students - they are a core part of the Students' Union and captured in our Constitution!

Societies

Students run societies for every interest you can think of. From creative to craft societies, country or course-based, there is a passion for everyone and if there isn’t a society for your passion you can always start one!

BUMMIT

Bummit is the world's largest, student organised, charity hitchhike. Organised by an SU committee, and open to all students with two opportunities to participate per year. The goal of these events is to hitchhike to a pre-determined location within a given time limit and raise as much sponsorship through doing so as we can.

Supporting students in reflecting upon and recording their extracurricular activities and achievements

We encourage everyone to record activities and experiences throughout their time at University and to generate a personal skills profile and record of progression which you can share with tutors, prospective employers and other educational organisations. This is done through an online portfolio tool called mySkills and you can find further information on the mySkills portfolio webpage.

If you are a graduate, you can continue to access your mySkills portfolio and can continue to access information and support for the Careers Service.
