Feminist Ecologies
Working in amongst the rich social ecology of Toxteth we have designed new spaces for reflection and reconciliation - ‘support structures’ for conversation, cultural exchange and collective story telling.
In his book, ‘Unless’, Kiel Moe suggests that to move beyond mythologies of architect as hero and building as trophy, we need to start with a clear eyed description of architecture as it is: merely the ‘hardened edge’ of a complex global system built on a series of damaging ‘unequal exchanges’, of labour, resources and materials.
Using Moe’s methods to critique Liverpool's bombastic monuments to Empire, Feminist Ecologies Studio has this year been in search of a different kind of institution - one rooted in people and place.
