Facilities
You'll find all the tools you need here, including dedicated design studios with panoramic views over Sheffield and specialised technical resources.
The School of Architecture and Landscape is based in the University of Sheffield's iconic Arts Tower - a spectacular listed building that has had a £36 million refurbishment.
With stunning panoramic views over Sheffield, our studio space forms the heart of your learning and is where you'll participate in workshops, group seminars, tutorials and project reviews.
Lectures may be located in central teaching spaces - you can also take advantage of facilities across the campus including our Print and Make workshop.
Studios
As well as being the location in which things are made, 'studio' refers to a place in which collaboration and exchange of ideas can flourish.
Our studio culture provides a space for you to develop your own design approach within the frameworks.
For architecture students, each year group has a dedicated studio to use as a social and academic base.
All floors are open, to encourage you to mix freely together, in a relaxed environment.
Our studios facilitate digital and messy design practice and are equipped with everything you'll need, including drawing boards, a wireless network and kitchen space. Our computer suites come supplied with high specification computers, a range of industry standard and specialist software and are supported by an in-house IT expert.
In our undergraduate programmes, materials taught in lectures are brought into studio projects, where tutors and practising architects help guide you the design process.
MArch students work on studio projects, which build on the strengths and research interests of our design tutors.
Media unit
In the media unit, you'll find a full range of audio, visual and environmental equipment. This includes an artificial sky for daylight simulation, heliodon for sunlight simulation, environmental meters, thermal imaging camera and mixed reality imaging suite.
A photography studio is also available for model photography and we offer a fully equipped digital review space.
