How to apply

You will need to apply by 28 August 2026.

As part of the process, you will be asked to upload supporting documents. You are not required to send any hard copies to us.

You can submit more than one application if you are applying for two different courses, however, you will have to submit them separately.

The system will save your details from the first application so you will only need to enter your information once.

Supporting documents

Design portfolio

Your portfolio should be 10 to 12 pages, in .pdf format and maximum 50MB.

Include a range of academic and practice work - use this as an opportunity to show your breadth and range of experience. We are always interested in your learning in practice and the way that you are applying and developing your skills and knowledge. We do not need every drawing from every project and please feel free to include extra activities such as competitions, workshops, field trips.

We do not accept links to online portfolios or shared drives.

Personal statement

Your personal statement should be 500 to 600 words, reflecting on your previous architectural experiences. We would also like to know why you have applied to study at the School of Architecture and Landscape.

It is always of value to know what your architectural approach is and what areas of the subject you are really interested in.

Our students' work

Get a sense of the sort of work our students complete by exploring last year's end of year exhibition or by exploring previous years' studios

After you apply

When you've submitted your application, you'll receive an email confirmation containing your application number.

If you are successful, you will be invited for an interview (in person or online). Unsuccessful applications will be notified by email.

Interviews

Interviews are an opportunity for you to discuss your experience to date and answer a series of questions.

If you are selected for an interview (online) you will be asked to talk about your application's portfolio as part of the discussion. You will share this portfolio as a screenshare on Google Meet. Please aim to show a range of work in your portfolio.

If you choose to attend in person you should bring along the same portfolio and you are welcome for this to be either digitally or printed.

At the interview it is likely you will be asked a number of questions which will be related to your portfolio, your work experience, why you want to study at Sheffield, and your future careers plans. This should be seen as a dialogue and for us to assess your suitability to study at Sheffield.
