Dr Alexis Moschopoulos

I joined Lifelong Learning in summer 2023 to teach Biology (Core) and Introduction to the Natural Sciences and moved into teaching Foundations of Psychology in spring 2024. I am fascinated by the study of the mind and trying to answer the big questions in life; What is consciousness? How can we measure or describe the human experience? What makes us different and what makes us unique? I love exploring these and other questions with my students.
I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and so teaching in this programme brings me a great sense of joy and satisfaction. I feel very lucky to be able to work with such a diverse and engaged group of students and with such dedicated and supportive colleagues.
My background is somewhat diverse. I moved to the UK to study plant science at Aberystwyth. Learning about genetics blew my mind and so to continue this learning I moved to the John Innes Centre in Norwich for an MSc and then PhD in genetics and molecular biology. I worked as a postdoc in the private sector and at the University of Sheffield, and then left academia to start an engineering company designing plant growth chambers for plant science research. I have since closed the company but continue some collaborative engineering projects about growing plants in space, and still consider myself an avid gardener.
I am very excited to start teaching on the MSc Psychology and Education in autumn 2026!
