How to apply

The Department for Education's (DfE) Get into Teaching service provides clear guidance to help potential teachers make strong applications.

All applications for postgraduate teacher training in England should be submitted via the DfE Apply for teacher training service.

Submit your application

If you already hold an overseas teaching qualification, you may already be eligible to teach in England.  We advise that you review this information in order to decide which route to teaching in England is best for you.  Teachers from overseas may still wish to train to be a teacher in England to build their knowledge and experience of the National Curriculum. However, please note that if you are eligible for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), and decide to embark on teacher training, you will not be eligible for a DfE funded bursary or a scholarship

Writing your application

Your application should make clear how the content of your degree or other education is directly relevant to the course for which you are applying and how your other experiences, activities and personal qualities are relevant to training for teaching.

It is desirable for you to have spent time in a secondary school in the United Kingdom either working, volunteering or as a visitor and to have spent some time within the department of your subject area in particular.

The Get into Teaching website has some useful advice and tips on completing your application.

Interviews

Specific information on our selection criteria and interview process is available via the DfE's Find teacher training courses service.
