Discover is an award-winning short course, designed to inspire adults who haven’t been to university to progress with their learning.

How to apply

Complete our online application form to express your interest in the Discover course.

A member of our team will be then in touch to discuss your eligibility for the course.

Our seven-week Discover course will run on the following dates:

  • Week one: 17 April (10am to 1pm)
  • Week two: 24 April (10am to 1pm)
  • Week three: 1 May (10am to 1pm)
  • Week four: 8 May (10am to 1pm)
  • Week five: 15 May (10am to 1pm)
  • Week six: 22 May (10am to 2pm)
  • Week seven: 5 June (10am to 2pm)

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements to taking this course, however:

  • you must be aged 21 or over
  • you can't take the course if you already have a degree
  • if English is your second language, you must be able to speak and write to at least ESOL Level 2

About the course

Delivered in partnership with Barnsley Museums, Clifton Park Museum and Museums Sheffield, the Discover course is designed to build your confidence if you have been out of formal learning for two or more years.

The course gives a real flavour of the university experience, and gives you a chance to take part in a range of activities and discussions. It also provides vital information, advice and guidance, like how to apply to university and how to finance your studies.

Teaching and learning methods

Each weekly session includes:

  • discussions and activities
  • information, advice and guidance provided by University staff or selected partners.

There are no written assessments or assignments on this course.

Each Discover course varies slightly, with new sessions constantly being developed. Previous courses have included:

  • Museum gallery visits 
  • Support and advice on how to apply to our courses

Every course features an in-depth 'Next Steps' session, including one-to-one careers advice and guidance. We also host a celebration session at the end of each course.
