Description

Deliberative Engagements with AI Policy: Formats and Practices

This webinar will explore how deliberative engagements with AI policy, safety, ethics and governance can be fostered amongst individuals and groups. It will provide an important space to discuss the various formats, methods, practices and potential ways to increase public engagement with AI Policy, to ensure that such policies work for all. These could be aimed at different demographic groups and communities, with different literacies and levels of engagement with policies for AI across contexts. A key outcome of this webinar is to forge academic and advocacy practices, aiming to go beyond technical language and legalese, to truly deepen colloquial, everyday meaning-making of AI technology and policy concepts, terminologies and their impacts.

The webinar will consist of a panel of international speakers, including Grace S. Thomson (Center for AI and Digital Policy), Warren Bowles (Independent Institute of Education), Debarati Halder (Parul Institute of Law, Parul University), Deuk Yeon Lee and Sara Marcucci (AI + Planetary Justice Alliance).

It will be chaired by Emma Jones and Preeti Raghunath (University of Sheffield).

This event has been accepted for the Official Pre-Summit Event of the AI Impact Summit 2026.
