Profile

Caterina Milo is Lecturer in Law at the School of Law, University of Sheffield, where she currently co-leads the Health Law Research Group. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and a Research Fellow of St Edmund's College, University of Cambridge.

Alongside her academic work, she has contributed to public service through appointments as an independent member of several Judicial Appointment Commissions in England and Wales, and as a panel member for the appointment commission of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

Before joining Sheffield, she was College Assistant Professor and Fellow in Law at Robinson College, University of Cambridge. She previously held a lectureship at the University of Exeter Law School.

Her research lies in the field of health law and ethics, with particular interests in informed consent, the doctor–patient relationship, and reproductive ethics. A central strand of her research focuses on reproductive decision-making, including abortion and antenatal loss. She analyses how legal frameworks regulate these experiences and how ethical principles, such as autonomy and medical partnership are reflected—or sometimes constrained—by law and policy. She is the author of 'Informed Consent to abortion: building bridges of dialogue in the medical encounter', a monograph published by Oxford University Press in 2025.
