The lectures, coursework and talks gave me the requisite knowledge, experience and confidence in handling the inevitable challenges that the real world presents
After graduating, I landed a job as a Graduate Data Scientist at Analytics Engines, taking a bold step to relocate to Northern Ireland (a place I had never been, with zero contacts) and start a new life there. Since then, I have been promoted to the role of a Data Scientist and my current responsibilities include developing algorithms, prompt engineering large language models (LLMs), and collaborating closely with clients. I also work with version control systems (Git/GitHub), produce technical and business-facing reports, facilitate subject-matter expert (SME) workshops, and periodically present and share learnings with colleagues.
I'm still at the start of my career, and there's so much room for growth particularly within the AI space which I am interested in.
What support have you accessed through the university?
As an international student, receiving a scholarship on merit for my academic achievement went a long way in securing my tuition fees. I come from an extended family, so every discount helps.
On benefiting from alumni advice/networking events, I gained a broader understanding of industry insights, navigating the corporate world and adopting the right mindset and attitude to work, particularly when starting out and sending out job applications. Also the value of networking with people in the industry, as gaining their insights could help you on your journey.
