Welcome and Transition information for Foundation Year students

Welcome from your Programme Lead

Very warm welcome to your Lifelong Learning Foundation Year, and congratulations on joining us for this exciting journey.

Starting university can feel both exciting and challenging. You will be adapting to university life, new processes, and the intellectual demands of your modules. Please remember that you are not expected to know everything from day one. You will be supported by a dedicated team of academic tutors and professional services staff who truly care about you as individuals and want you to succeed. Do ask plenty of questions and seek support whenever you need it. For us, there is no such thing as a ‘stupid question’!

This year will provide you with exciting opportunities—learning new concepts, gaining new perspectives and new skills, building confidence, and finding hope for a better future. It will also give you opportunities to connect with like-minded people and perhaps make friends for life. Please support and help each other—a small kindness can really make a difference to the lives of those around you.

Get inspired, work hard, be resilient, and support each other. We hope you will enjoy your Foundation Year journey with Lifelong Learning—we're excited to be part of your next chapter in life!

Welcome to the School of Education, your home for the Foundation Year

Here you'll find the information you need to prepare for the start of your studies. Welcome week starts on the 22 September - it's your chance to get to know the School, the University and the City. There will be lots going on throughout the week across campus, but we really encourage you to attend all the events taking place for School of Education and Foundation Year students.

Timetables

Your timetable will include scheduled Welcome Week events. You will be able to see your timetable once you've registered as a student. 

Please download the iSheffield app in advance, which contains information about your timetable, signing into your sessions, the library, contacts, support, social opportunities, the campus map and key locations on campus.

Welcome Week

To get to know you a little better, and to welcome you into this phase of your studies, each year we hold a series of school Welcome Week events for new students.

It is a great opportunity to learn more about getting started with your course. You will  also meet other students, learn from current students further on in the degree, and get to know some of the staff who will be working with you over the Foundation Year.

You will need to check your online timetable for final confirmation of times and locations. View our Building Directory for information about locations on campus. The University's A-Z Campus Map may be useful to find out the location of your teaching session, a copy can be downloaded here.

We strongly encourage you to attend all your Welcome Week sessions.
