Tasnim Hassan (she/they) is a researcher and practitioner whose work focuses on intersectional disability research, with a particular emphasis on race and racism. Her research is grounded in critical disability studies and intersectionality, with broader interests in intersecting structural inequalities, knowledge production and the relationship between research and social change.
She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sheffield, working on the ESRC-funded project Amplifying the Mental Health of Black University Students (https://sheffield.ac.uk/ihuman/our-work/amplifying-mental-health-black-university-students). She is also completing a part-time PhD in Sociology at Durham University, where her research uses an exploratory sequential mixed-methods approach to examine how racism and ableism intersect in shaping the experiences of Black and Brown Disabled people in the UK, including how they encounter, negotiate and navigate structural inequalities.
In parallel with her academic research, Tasnim has continued to work as an independent researcher and consultant across disability justice, anti-racist, feminist and youth movements, with a particular interest in building connections across movements. Her work spans community-based research, co-production, inclusive practices, organisational strategy and development, fundraising and movement building, alongside strategic and governance roles within the voluntary and community sector. These experiences inform her approach to research, particularly her interest in bridging theory and practice, valuing different forms of knowledge and exploring how research can contribute to meaningful social change.
