BSc Computer Science
Chelsie takes full advantage of the extra curricular activities on offer at university and has recently gone on to win the Engineering in Business Innovation Competition in the 'big ideas' category with a team of other engineering students.

Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?
The city is gorgeous and engineers are a big heart of the university, so there’s a lot of support offered.

Why did you choose to study your chosen degree?
I tried a tutorial by an indie game developer on a coding/animation course and I’ve never looked back! That’s when I realised Computer Science was for me.

What do you enjoy most about your course?
I enjoy the theory and learning abstract concepts about my course. There’s always something new and different so it keeps me on my toes.

What do you like best about Sheffield and the University?
The university is more supportive of the students than most, and this has shown especially during the pandemic.

University isn't just about academic studies. What extracurricular activities do you enjoy or are involved in?
I enjoy trying out loads of different sports but my current home would be volunteering at live events with TSC

I was also part of a team from Engineering, You're Hired! that went onto take part in and win the Engineering in Business Innovation Competition. We invented EyeCycle which is an AI-driven roadside camera designed to detect cyclists and alert motorists of their presence and avoid accidents. Entering this competition was brilliant and I think the best thing about working in a multi disciplinary team was the diverse skill set the team has due to our various degrees and experiences. The most enjoyable bit was being able to travel into London for the interviews and meeting all the competitors and organisers at the Royal Academy of Engineering!
