The courses themselves always had a perfect mix of theory and practice, focusing on what is used in industry
My career after graduating in 2024
After graduation I decided to pursue Masters in Computers Science with specialisation in Intelligent Systems at Technical University of Warsaw (expected graduation 2026). I've also started work at National Development Bank, which is 2nd biggest publicly own bank in Poland (right after National Bank of Poland).
My current role is related to Data Science. My day to day work focuses on working with data, designing data driven solutions, tools, data pipelines as well as creating machine learning models that can be later used within the bank. Furthermore, a big part of my work is creating Proof of Concepts of how AI could be utilized within the bank.
What helped me prepare for my career
I think the biggest thing were projects that simulated real industry work. Industry related sessions and workshops were helpful with first steps.
With help from the university, I was able to get placement with IBM as IBM MQ Product Management Intern, which exposed me to a lot of innovative people, kick-started my career, and allowed me to develop skills that I use in my current role.
My overall experience in Sheffield
My experience at Sheffield was full of positives, I think university is really open and anyone can find something for themselves; the city itself is really nice to live in. The courses themselves always had a perfect mix of theory and practice, focusing on what is used in industry.
Be sure to try things out, especially societies related to fields you are interested in. University is always helpful and have tons of resources to guide you career wise. Placement year is probably one of the best ways to kick-start your career, while also being able to learn more about a given position and if it's even something you want to do.
