Dr Mohamed Salaheddine Talamali joined the University of Sheffield's School of Computer Science in May 2026 as a Research Fellow and Co-Investigator for the EPSRC project on Machine Intelligence with Robot Swarms for Underground Operations. His research centres on swarm robotics, decentralised intelligence, and long-term autonomy in robot collectives, especially in tough environments with uncertainty, limited resources, and constrained communication. Prior to this, he was a Research Associate in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Sheffield, developing decentralised, energy-efficient coordination and adaptive learning for robot swarms. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in Automation, Control, and Robotics, earning the Inspirational Teaching Award twice. He also worked as a Research Fellow at University College London's Department of Computer Science, applying machine learning to design spatial sound modulators for uses like acoustic levitation and mid-air haptics. Dr Talamali earned his PhD at the University of Sheffield, focusing on scalable algorithms for large robot swarms with limited sensing, communication, and computing.
