Natalia, Senior Administrator - Careers & Employability Service

Who are you and what is your job title?

My name is Natalia and I work in the Careers and Employability Service as a Senior Administrator. I did my undergrad degree here in English Language, Linguistics and Sociology and then my Masters in Cognitive Studies.

 

How long have you worked at the University?

I have worked at the University for almost a year now.

 

What does your job involve?

I work in the employer engagement team. Most of my role involves organising careers fairs, three times a year where employers come to campus and talk to studnets about the opportunities they offer. I do marketing, organisation, planning, loads of things.

 

What other jobs have you done at the University?

Before joining the University in this role I have been a Student Ambassador for various different teams. The most exciting and rewarding one was as a Global Campus Ambassador.

 

Why do you think the University is a remarkable place to work?

I think it is a very exciting place to work because there are so many different things you can do to develop yourself as a person and career wise, like training, secondments in different departments, exploring different roles and meeting lots of different people.

 

How would you describe the working culture at the University?

I would definitely say it’s very collaborative. You get to engage with different departments and people from across the University. It's very welcoming, and you are encouraged to look for different opportunities for development.

 

What opportunities has working at the University provided you with?

Definitely staying in an amazing city! Also, training opportunities, for example, I’m currently undergoing training in project management which is funded by the Careers & Employability Service, which is very exciting and I’m very happy I was offered the opportunity to do it. Something I look forward to in the future is looking at secondment opportunities and going into different departments and seeing how the University works in different areas as well.

 

What skills/experience from your time as a student at the UoS were key to you getting your role/useful in your current role?

I think it was useful for me to learn critical skills as a student. My role involves a lot of critical thinking. Other skills you learn as a student, digital capability, team work, all those transferable skills that you learn, you can use in different roles here.

 

What would you say to current students who are considering the University as a place to work?

Go for it! You should definitely give it a go because you have the student experience and you know how things work and what could be made better. You can join the University as a member of staff and try to make those things happen and make the University even better for future students.

 

Why did you decide to stay in Sheffield?

I really wanted to stay in Sheffield. I love this city, I love the University community, and I really wanted a job at the University.
