Countryside walks provide a summer break

During the summer months the BNBR Life Centre remains open and we continue to put on events for students and staff who are in Sheffield.

The events include countryside walks, which we co-host with the wider Student Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team.

There were two walks this summer, particularly aimed at postgraduate students who typically remain in Sheffield during this vacation period.

The first walk was at Padley Gorge in the Peak District. Meeting at Sheffield Train Station, we made the 20-minute railway trip to Grindleford.

From there we walked through beautiful woodland before emerging into the open to see stunning areas of bright purple heather.

For the second walk (pictured) we met on campus at the Students’ Union and went by bus to Rivelin Valley on the west edge of Sheffield. Walking through the tree-lined valley, we saw varied wildlife including a heron.

Both walks featured a café stop before returning to the city on public transport .

It was encouraging to see several of the same students return for the second walk!
