Guided from childhood by a deep desire to understand the world and myself, my whole life has been shaped by my search for answers to a few basic questions: Who
am I? Who is God? Why are we here? And how can I achieve true, lasting happiness?  By taking a non-conventional path from the start, I met with many opportunities for
personal and spiritual exploration. As a result, much of my education has come from life experience. Backpacking solo across continents, I experienced a recurring theme
of being protected. These early experiences shaped my character and instilled a profound appreciation for the innate goodness which lies at the heart of all human
beings. Many years later I came to recognise the Source of this good fortune.

Raja Yoga, as taught by the Brahma Kumaris, is not confined to moments of stillness; it can be explored in every moment and activity of life. At first, I found it
helped me to control mood swings but, over time, I have found this practice continually reveals my hidden talents and interests, especially in creative fields such
as art, gardening, cooking, and hands-on DIY projects. I have also found a genuine interest to engage with other people – something I had come to avoid in recent
years.

I’ve had multiple job roles - my favourite was driving lorries - always through agencies, as this suited my restless spirit. In January 2022, I landed the job of
Mechanical Maintenance Engineer in the University’s Estates’ department which has now been my longest span of employment. Each day on campus presents fresh
opportunities which allow me to combine new practical skills with my deeper sense of purpose.

The Brahma Kumaris are a diverse group of people with a shared experience of how Raja Yoga meditation has touched their lives for the better.  For me, it has brought clarity, meaning and fulfilment and has enabled me to more easily ride the ups and downs that life has to offer.

Since the mid ‘90s I have enjoyed helping to organise Brahma Kumaris activities in Sheffield for the general public as well as the BK community and have enjoyed seeing lots of happy faces as a result!

I studied medicine at the University of Sheffield.  An enthusiastic backpacker in those days, I travelled widely with a particular interest in meeting local people and coming
to understand a little about their communities, ways of living, beliefs and languages. I experienced warmth and hospitality wherever I went and I tangibly felt our common
humanity.

Then as a GP in the city I had the opportunity to work with people from a wide range of nationalities, faiths and cultures, including asylum seekers and refugees, which was very enriching.

I have family members and friends who have worked in academic and administrative departments in universities and so I have some insight into both student and staff perspectives.  I also have lived experience of disability.

Otherwise, I love walks in nature.  A source of great joy in my life has been playing violin in youth and amateur orchestras.  I now live in Leeds.  You are welcome to make contact for a chat.
