Jayne's research is driven by improving participation in political decision making, particularly around engaging the public and stakeholders in environmental, energy and climate change policy making. Previous research has explored the use and impact of democratic innovations such as citizens assemblies, including Climate Assembly UK.
Jayne is currently leading research on how communities ‘left behind’ by the transition to mains gas will receive the transition to low carbon heating as PI on Project Leapfrog, funded by EDRC (the Energy Demand Research Centre. She is also leading an UKERC funded project - 'Energy Hub Futures' - that is exploring how communities hubs can support a just transition to low carbon heating.
Jayne is working with colleagues in the School of Landscape and Architecture on the Climate ReAssemblies research series.

Jayne's research is underpinned by theories of deliberative democracy and environmental, energy and climate justice, in the context of sustainability, principally domestic / community / renewable energy and contaminated land.
