Kerin Bayliss

I am an experienced qualitative researcher with a background in public health and health services research, specialising in Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE). I joined the Primary Care Research Group at the University of Sheffield’s Sheffield Centre for Health and Related Research (SCHARR) in 2026, having previously worked at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the University of Manchester. My work focuses on co-producing research that aims to improve patient and carer experiences of healthcare. This includes person-centred approaches to care across a range of clinical and community settings.

My research experience includes work on the mental health of carers; suicide prevention; developing and evaluating training for the management of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME in primary care; piloting and evaluating the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) as well as research on loneliness and social isolation; service evaluation and long-term condition management. I have experience in guideline development at NICE and have used qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches.

I am currently working on the NIHR-funded RESHAPE CARE study (“Re-Engineering Services for Health: Maximising Person-centred Care”), collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to improve services and patient pathways for people living with multiple long-term conditions, including diabetes and breathlessness.
