Dr Charlotte Head

Joining the department in September 2024, I am a Research Associate in Public Health Economic Modelling working mainly on modelling commercial determinants of health with a focus on alcohol and nicotine. I also sometimes work on EEACTs (Economic Evaluations Alongside Clinical Trials) and love any kind of research that ends up with great graphs and figures (and bonus points for great maps!).

My current research focus is on spatial modelling of small-areas and in particular outlet density and availability for alcohol, tobacco and vaping.

I have a background in biomedical science with an undergraduate degree from Sheffield Hallam University. Having previously worked in an NHS Medical Microbiology laboratory during this time, I was able to appreciate the work that goes on in a clinical setting. I then spent my postgraduate research journey (MSc and PhD) investigating antimicrobial resistance in the environment at the University of York, finding a real appreciation for One Health research.

During my PhD I found a love for coding and big data, which led me to this modelling role. The majority of the time, you will find me working within the R environment.
