Paro is a realistic baby harp seal robot for use in therapy and social care. It is covered with anti-bacterial and soil-resistant artificial fur, and has a variety of sensors including tactile, light, audio, temperature and position sensors to react to its surroundings. Paro can express emotions in response to actions and events, such as surprise, happiness or anger by blinking its eyes and moving its head and limbs. Paro will also remember previous actions if stroked, and can remember its name if named. Each Paro has a different face and is handmade. Sheffield Robotics has 3 available Paro Seals.

Paro has a rechargeable battery pack with a life of about 6 hours, and it comes with an AC adaptor.
