Active Touch Lab The Active Touch Laboratory uses methods in animal behaviour, neuroethology, human psychophysics, computational modelling and robotics to investigate tactile sensing in animals, people and intelligent machines.
Adaptive Behaviour Research Group The Adaptive Behaviour Research Group aims to form an understanding of animal and human behaviour by studying computer models of neural circuits and the behaviour patterns of robots using these models. The group are multidisciplinary, drawing on ideas from computational neuroscience, adaptive behaviour, neuroscience, ethology, evolutionary biology, connectionism and robotics.
AMRC – Integrated Manufacturing Group The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) is a network of world-leading research and innovation centres working with manufacturing companies of any size from around the globe.
Autonomous Systems and Robotics This research group carries out world leading research in robotics and autonomous robotic systems by investigating key research problems of sensing, control, decision making and system integration.
Behavioural, Evolution and Theory Lab (BET Lab) The BET Lab is an interdisciplinary collection of individuals interested in behaviours and behavioural mechanisms, both in animals and in artificial systems. We apply a range of theoretical approaches, from mathematics and statistics, decision theory, computer science, and physics.
Centre for Automation and Robotics Research (CARR) The Centre for Automation and Robotics Research (CARR) brings together robotics-related research, teaching and consultancy. Their mission is to be a focal point where diverse robotics and automation projects are developed alongside each other.
Centre for Assistive Technology and Connected Healthcare (CATCH) The Centre for Assistive Technology and Connected Healthcare (CATCH) is a translational research centre at the University of Sheffield. They research, develop, evaluate and implement new technologies to enable people to live well and age well.
Computer Science Testing Research Group The Testing Research Group is one of the largest groups of its kind in the UK developing innovative approaches to software testing and quality assurance.
Insigneo The Institute for in silico Medicine at the University of Sheffield is Europe’s largest research institute dedicated entirely to the development, validation, and use of in silico medicine technologies. INSIGNEO’s mission is to perform cutting edge research in areas of fundamental and applied biomedical modelling, imaging and informatics, implementing the scientific ambition behind the Virtual Physiological Human and transforming healthcare.
iHuman Disruptive research into what it means to be human from scholars and researchers in the fields of Science and Technology Studies and Critical Disability Studies.
Lab4Living Lab4Living is design-led interdisciplinary research group based at Sheffield Hallam University. This collaborative community of researchers across design, healthcare and creative practices work together to address real world issues that impact on health and wellbeing.
Manufacturing and Structural Integrity Group Manufacturing and Structural Integrity group delivers research across a wide range of sectors, often through multi-disciplinary activities.
Mobile Machines & Vision Lab The Mobile Machines and Vision Laboratory (MMVL) is a research group under the Centre for Automation and Robotics Research (CARR) within the Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI). The expertise within the MMVL group are diverse but it includes a long standing presence on open-source Computer Vision / Machine Perception, as well as Embedded Systems Engineering and Human Machine Interfaces, in relation to mobile robotics research and its applications.
Natural Robotics Lab Investigating robotic systems inspired by nature, and robotic models of natural systems.
Nuclear AMRC

The University of Sheffield Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, helps UK companies win work in nuclear.

Pipebots Pipebots is an intelligent, robust and resilient buried pipe system that moves us towards failure free operation and so ends unnecessary & unplanned road excavation.
Sheffield Biomedical Robotics Lab Focus is the design, fabrication and control of robots that operate long term to restore, repair or replace biological functions and impact human healthcare. Our work includes robotic implants, ingestible capsules, prosthetic wearables (tactile sensors and haptic devices), and plant prostheses.
Sheffield Microrobotics Lab (SML) Ultimate goal is to create miniature autonomous "life" in the form of miniature robots through the understanding of principles in nature, with the aim of broadening the possibility of robotics at a small scale. Our research interests reside in the fields of Robotics, Self-assembly, Embodied AI, Material sciences, Biomedical engineering, and Artificial Life.
Speech and Hearing Research Group The Speech and Hearing Research Group is concerned with computational modelling of auditory and speech perception in humans and machines; robustness in speech recognition and large vocabulary speech recognition systems and their applications.
Urban Institute  The Urban Institute is an international research centre which examines how cities are responding to the challenges and opportunities of intensified urbanisation, technological innovation and resource constraint.
