Research project(s)

Dr Daniel Gillard’s research sits at the intersection of condensed matter physics, nanophotonics, and advanced semiconductor materials. Following his PhD at the University of Sheffield focusing on exciton and cavity-polariton dynamics in 2D heterostructures, his work has specialised in engineering and characterising spin, magneto-optical, nonlinear, and many-body effects in microcavity and nanophotonic architectures.

His most recent research explores emerging quantum material systems—most notably investigating magnetically correlated excitons in the van der Waals antiferromagnet CrSBr coupled to nanophotonic Bound States in the Continuum (BIC) cavity architecture. To support these studies, Daniel has developed comprehensive expertise in end-to-end experimental setup design, with automated data acquisition pipelines supporting a team of 5 PhDs through technical leadership and research expertise.
