Dr Colin Nolden, Senior Research Fellow at the Energy Institute and based at Sheffield University Management School, has recently been appointed Specialist Adviser of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee (ESNZ).

As a cross-party select committee of 11 Members of Parliament (MPs), ESNZ scrutinises the operation and policies of the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero and its public bodies, including Ofgem and the Committee on Climate Change, to deliver clean and affordable energy.

Building on his research on the economics of flexibility service contracting in local energy markets, on procuring local net zero investment, into the need to shift from the “just transition” to the “trust transition”, and his current research into the social value of community energy demand reductions, Colin will work with the Committee secretariat to provide authoritative advice on energy economics and policy.

Congratulations to Dr Nolden - this is an outstanding opportunity to ensure UK Government policy is informed by Dr Nolden’s extensive expertise and cutting-edge research on energy policy at a critical time. This is an excellent example of the impactful research on critical contemporary challenges undertaken at Sheffield University Management School and the University of Sheffield.
