Facilities and support
Our community of PhD students is based in our Doctoral Research Centre, which is a bright and modern office space for the exclusive use of our PhD students. Our students also benefit from accessing multiple sources of support across the School and University.
Doctoral Research Centre
The Doctoral Research Centre underwent a full refurbishment in January 2019 to provide our PhD students with exceptionally high-quality spaces for working and socialising. A key aim of the improvement works was to encourage a strong sense of community among students. To meet these needs, flexible working spaces and shared study facilities were created and the building was also equipped with improved accessibility features.
The University Library
The University of Sheffield offers world-class library facilities, which for PhD students provides a source of both information and support. The library has three different sites, each of which offer unique working environments for both silent and group study.
Research Support
Located within the Management School, the Research Office provides tailored support for our students. Your PGR Support Officers are your first point of contact for issues relating to your studies, providing advice and guidance on matters involving progression processes and requirements, course administration, sources of help and support, viva arrangements, and much more. Your PGR Support Officers also work to organise and support PGR events and activities in your department, and will be a key point of contact for you during your studies at the University.
Careers and employability support
Specialist Careers and Employability support is available for PGR students to help them think about their career goals and next steps, whether this is within or outside academia. The Management School has a dedicated Employability Team. Our students can access careers guidance, skills training and special events. The Management School has its own physical Employability Hub space, open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm, which offers employability services to students. The Hub provides one-on-one career appointments, workshops, networking opportunities with top employers, and also advertises both student and graduate jobs.
English Language support
The University offers a wide range of English language support and development services to students including a specialist dyslexia/SpLD tutorial service.
