The CMI Launches New AI Series on the University of Sheffield Player

The Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI) launches a new series of films & podcasts, demonstrating how research at the University of Sheffield is redefining possibilities in healthcare, engineering, and beyond.

The Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI) has launched a new curated series of films and podcasts. Available now on the University of Sheffield Player, this series brings together the work of university researchers, exploring how AI is redefining possibilities in fields from healthcare to engineering.

"I spend most time talking to all sorts of people about AI, whether they work in businesses, governments, or consider themselves everyday citizens. I can tell you one thing is true of most people - they feel that they should know more about AI, but don’t feel confident that they know where to start."

Dr Susan Oman, CMI Theme Lead for AI and In/Equality and the series curator.

A Central Hub for anyone to access AI research

The series contains work that is designed to communicate about AI with diverse audiences, enabling anyone to engage with university research. This series will continue to be developed and expanded, and already features a mix of formats including cartoons and animations, interviews, documentaries and artists' performances.

This new AI library reflects the breadth of our interdisciplinary research and explores a wide range of topics: some films look into the future of medicine or robotics; others reveal our archaeological pasts. You'll find content exploring the flight paths of bees, and an artist's performance reflecting on what it’s like to be a data scientist in this AI society.

Highlights include:

This library will continue to grow as more resources are made available that communicate The University of Sheffield’s cutting edge AI research.
