Profile

As a Knowledge Transfer Associate, I am developing a novel method for the continuous monitoring of river water quality in partnership with City St George University and Detectronic Ltd to meet the ambitious requirements of section 82 of the environment act 2021 which will see continuous water quality monitors deployed at every combined sewer overflow in the country.

Prior to Starting at Sheffield I undertook an undergraduate masters in chemistry at Bangor University followed by a Masters by Research with Cranfield University where I was placed in Thames Water's Water Quality Laboratory assessing the viability of applying flow cytometry for the quantification of bacteria in the drinking water network.

Following this at Cranfield University, I undertook my PhD in environmental chemistry, evaluating and adapting portable x-ray fluorescence and data fusion techniques for non-invasive characterisation of metal-contaminated environments.

Research interests

My research interests lie in developing and applying new sensor approaches to complex environmental matrixes, including inorganic and organic analytes in aquatic and terrestrial environments.
