This theme takes a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the mechanisms that determine the responses of cells and tissues to biomaterials and biomechanical cues (mechanobiology), and how these influence health and disease.

We apply this new knowledge to the development of therapeutic interventions, ranging from innovative biomedical materials with enhanced properties to new regenerative medicine applications and strategies to treat cancer, vascular diseases and other conditions.
