Sheffield has an established and significant Muslim community, with 10.3% of residents in the city region identifying as Muslim according to the 2021 census.

There are many mosques, religious centres, shops and community groups available to help you during your time as a student in Sheffield.

There is also support for Muslim students available from the University and Student’s Union.

Local Muslim community and support groups

Sheffield New Muslims provides support to people who have converted to or are interested in learning more about Islam in Sheffield.

The Emaan Trust: The Emaan Trust of Sheffield is aiming to establish a distinguished Islamic Centre so it builds bridges for civilised communications and serves people in Sheffield and surrounding areas.

Pakistan Muslim Centre (PMC)- Sheffield The PMC aims to provide opportunities and services to Sheffield and its surrounding areas.

MEND (Muslim Engagement and Development) Sheffield working group. MEND is a not-for-profit company that helps to empower and encourage British Muslims within local communities to be more actively involved in British media and politics.

Active Inclusion Network empower underrepresented communities, particularly South Asian and Muslim groups, to engage with and thrive in the great outdoors. They run cycling, hiking and running events in the Peak District.

Sports and leisure for women

Our Sport and Physical Activity offers women only exercise classes, including pilates, indoor cycling, deadlift workshops and more.

Heeley Pool and Gym has women-only swimming times.

NRG Gym is a 24 hour gym with a women-only section. 

Sheffield Muay Thai Boxing Gym offers women-only sessions on Wednesdays at 6pm and Sunday at 9am. 

Turkish Baths 1877 is a spa in Sheffield, with women-only sessions on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Zest Centre offers community, leisure, health and support services to adults and children across Sheffield. They have a women only section and dedicated swimming times for women.

Report and Support allows staff and students to report concerns, anonymously or with their contact details, about an experience they have had or witnessed at the University.
