After discovering her passion for medicine, Faith joined the University as a technician and during this time completed her PhD before moving into Clinical Oncology working as a Postdoctoral Researcher.

Following a move into industry for a few years, which provided Faith an opportunity to understand and develop her commercial acumen, she returned to Sheffield and began working on pioneering research that looked at cancer-killing viruses and how they can be delivered in the bloodstream to cancers.

Recognising the impact that this research could have, Faith combined her research experience and commercial experience to set up an all-female spinout company, NanOncolytics.

Faith reflects on the commercialisation journey and says: “Being on the commercialisation journey has made me realise how few women within the University set up spinout companies. Within the startup sector, women don’t typically win as much investor funding and are often asked different questions at investor meetings. I hope this initiative showcases that women are making a difference in this space and inspires others to consider the commercialisation journey. A group of women empowering women is so wonderful to see.”

Thank you to all the women for taking the time to share their stories and reflections and for providing the information featured on these web pages.
