Journalism offer holder days
As part of your offer holder day at Sheffield, you'll be spending some quality time getting to know the School of Information, Journalism and Communication and your chosen course.
Arriving at the school
You will have booked to visit us from 10am to 12.30pm or from 2pm to 4.30pm on your offer holder day. Please arrive from 30 minutes before your session, as we'll need to scan the QR code from your booking to register you.
Your arrival location is: The Wave, main reception. You can view this on our interactive campus map, and there will also be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to assist you.
If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.
When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the school activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, the school will be unable to accommodate any non-booked visitors.
However, you're welcome to bring additional guests to accompany you on the day, and we would encourage these guests to take part in our range of central exhibitions and tours while the school activities are running.

You will have booked to visit the school from 10am to 12.30pm or from 2pm to 4.30pm on your offer holder day. Here's what to expect from your time with us. Timings are approximate and are subject to change, and so we recommend checking back prior to the event.
| Duration | Activity | Summary of activity |
|---|---|---|
| 30 minutes | Welcome Talk | Now that you hold an offer for our BA Journalism Studies course, academic staff and student ambassadors (some of our current students) will provide a course-specific welcome talk where they dig deeper into the course. They will cover key information such as modules, contact hours, teaching and assessment methods, and career support. |
| 15 minutes | Break | Grab some refreshments and get to know academic staff, current students, and your potential future coursemates! If you have any questions after the welcome talk, you can also ask them here. |
| 1 hour 40 minutes | Being a Sheffield Journalist | You will be split into three groups and carousel around 3 x taster activities, including:
Parents/supporters can attend all activities and see the facilities in action, aside from the TV/Radio bulletin activity as the capacity in the broadcast studio is limited. During this time, they are welcome to attend a journalism-specific parents/supporters’ drop-in Q&A in Lecture Theatre 4. |
For the rest of the day, you'll have time to take part in the central tours and exhibitions detailed in our offer holder day guide.
Parents and supporters
Your guests are welcome to come to most of the activities with you so they can see our facilities in action. They will have the chance to attend the press conference activity, get involved with the student ambassador Q&A and speak with our course leaders and senior academics, who will be on-hand to answer any queries they might have.
