Housing, Home and Real Estate
This research cluster examines housing systems, policy and practice.
About our work
The cluster brings together researchers with an interest in housing systems, policy and practice, experiences of housing and home, and applied research in real estate. Our work is theoretical, empirical and applied and employs a range of qualitative, quantitative and spatial analysis approaches.
The cluster supports and promotes the work of one of the largest communities of housing and real estate researchers in the UK. Members are drawn from different disciplinary backgrounds and methodological traditions.
Our housing research investigates the importance of housing as a human right and a commodity, inequalities in access to these benefits and potential solutions. We analyse how housing is produced, consumed and experienced, explore variations in the processes and outcomes of the housing system across different scales, scrutinise the role of policy and practice and consider alternative solutions.
Our applied real estate research examines the structure, operation and evolution of residential and commercial real estate markets. It seeks to understand the ways in which institutional change, public policy, technological innovation and sustainability drive and alter real estate use, investment and development. We employ a range of theoretical and methodological approaches to understand the dynamics of the sector and to offer practical, evidence-based solutions to policy and practice problems.
