My name's Angel, I'm 21 years old. I study mechatronic engineering and I grew up in France. I came to the UK around GCSE time and I just never left!
ACSE student, Angel, talks about studying for her MEng Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering with a Year in Industry.

The department

I didn't know if I wanted to be a mechanical or an electronic engineer, and then mechatronic happened. At ACSE they showed me control systems and I realised that this is what I wanted to do. And Sheffield has the only Control and Systems Engineering Department in the UK, so what better place to be!

Studying

In the second year we had a mechatronics module and its completely, 100%, project-based. That's the first time you really get to imagine a design, complete it, 3D print it. You work on it all day and then afterwards you have this thing that you've made. From your brain - just right out of your head. And working as a team, all the project management, I think that was something that wasn't just purely theoretical. That was the first time I really felt like this was what I wanted to do. This is engineering. This is mechatronics.

Next year I have a module called Machine Learning and I'm really excited about it. Pretty much everything I've done beforehand comes up to just be used in this one module. It seems like everything has been leading up to it. It's been in the back of my mind thinking this is going to be a really good module.
