Aspiring teacher, Gemma Tetley, enjoyed her placement in a primary school where she was able to fully immerse herself in the classroom environment, build relationships with students and teachers as well as building her confidence in the classroom.

In her final year, we asked Gemma to tell us why she chose the course and what she has learned while studying with us. Here's her response:

I love this course because it covers such a diverse range of interesting topics surrounding childhood. I love being in a fairly small cohort, compared to other courses within the university, as you get to know all of your course mates and can engage in relaxed and insightful discussions as well as build friendships.

I chose this course because I was intrigued by the diverse range of modules it offered surrounding a range of different aspects of childhood, giving me a well-rounded knowledge before deciding to go on to teacher training. I chose to study in Sheffield because of its welcoming environment, its excellent opportunities for student experience, and its high level of safety for students.

The most exciting thing I have done on this course is undertake a placement in a primary school where I was able to fully immerse myself in the classroom environment, building relationships with students and teachers as well as building my confidence within this environment.

After graduation I would like to go out into the world and inspire a wide range of children to take opportunities in life and be the best they can be.
