Description
Are you interested in finding out about returning to education as a mature student?
The University of Sheffield offers a wide range of degrees with a foundation year for mature students who don't have the standard university entry qualifications. So why not come along to our Lifelong Learning subject taster day and find out more about what studying as a mature student with us might be like?
Join us on Tuesday 23rd June, 10am to 2pm.
Registration opens from 9:30am and the event will start at 10am. There will also be an optional campus tour from 1:15pm.
Staff and students from our Lifelong Learning team will be available throughout the event to answer any questions you have about studying with us.
Subject tasters to include:
On This Day: During this session, we will search for events that happened on this date in history. We will see which events catch our attention, reflecting on our individual interests and experiences, before investigating a few of these events in more detail to see what they reveal about 'The Humanities', and maybe about humanity more broadly (suitable for those interested in Arts and Humanities subjects).
‘Fantasies of justice: Popular criminology & the figure of the superhero’
This session explores criminality and justice in the ‘Superhero’ Genre and the popularity and fascination with criminal acts, criminals, and superhero saviours. The session examines the problem of evil, the failure of justice, and the pleasure of vengeance (suitable for those interested in Social Science subjects).
Seeing is not perceiving: How our brains construct the world around us
This session will look at the psychology behind how we perceive the world around us. Do we all perceive the same reality as it truly is, or is reality constructed differently for each of us in our brains? We will test these ideas through some participatory experiments! (suitable for those interested in Science subjects).
More than just a smile: How your mouth impacts your body (suitable for those interested in Health subjects).
Who is it for?
Anyone 21 or over, without standard university entry qualifications, who would like information on studying for a degree with a foundation year at the University of Sheffield.
