Literacies, Language and Digital Lives
This Cluster focuses on the complex and evolving ways people engage with language, communication and meaning-making across diverse social, cultural and material contexts and across on- and off-line boundaries.
About our work
Our cluster's members are experts in reading and writing, new and digital literacies, the digital lives of children and young people, multilingualism and language acquisition. Together, we pursue topics such as how literacies are shaped by culture, technology, identity and power, highlighting the role of digital media in transforming how we read, write, speak, and interact. From traditional texts to multimodal and digital practices, this cluster investigates how language and literacies influence learning, participation, and belonging in a rapidly changing world.
Our activities
- We meet regularly to share and learn what is going on in our academic lives.
- We invite relevant, high-profile speakers to bring our work into dialogue with cutting-edge scholarship.
- We respond to the needs of our membership, offering ad-hoc sessions on particular CPD needs or emergent opportunities for research and knowledge exchange.
- We value contributions across roles and experience levels, including PGRs, ECRs, mid-career and senior academics.
