The Athena SWAN charter recognises excellence in higher education employment in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine) and specifically promotes gender equality.

The School of Computer Science has been awarded the Athena SWAN Silver award. The award recognises the action the School has taken to promote a truly innovative working environment that allows both men and women to thrive.

EDI Networking Event - 15th November 2024

On the 15th November 2024 we will host our first Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) event, with the goal of bringing together EDI representatives from across the UK to create a network of critical friends who can collaborate and support one another in advancing EDI within our communities.

Computer Science, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in general, traditionally suffer from a gender imbalance. In the School of Computer Science and in the Faculty of Engineering we are happy to be redressing this.

Sheffield Women in Computer Science Society (SWiCS)

The Sheffield Women in Computer Science Society (SWiCS) is all about bringing people together. Founded in 2019, the aim was to create a community within a subject area that can often suffer from a gender imbalance.

women+@ DCS is a group that supports activities for promoting greater inclusion and visibility in computer science teaching, research and academic leadership. They help to identify and promote initiatives that help women in their career paths to established and leadership positions in both academia and in industry.
