An introduction to the MArch studios we ran in the academic year starting in September 2021. Some of these studios have built on previous work, and some of them reflect the pandemic that was a core part of life in these years.

Urban Ecologies

Working with communities on the edges of Convoys Wharf we take a critical look at the developers’ masterplan and make speculative proposals for the site and at the edges to find ways to increase biodiversity and develop tools for creating symbiotic relationships between natural and human-built systems.

Exploring the concept of waste (and value) through a series of lenses from the idea of buildings as repositories of materials, catalogued for reuse with material passports, to the memories and stories associated with fragments and the transferal of meaning.

Exploring a new speculative future for the Isle of Man, actively and aggressively tackling real issues of population decline, migration, reduced birth rates, education, trade, employment and energy security.
