As University Secretary, Riley works to ensure the highest standards of governance in liaison with the Chair of Council, President and Vice-Chancellor, University Executive Board members and Professional Services Directors.

Riley Power joined the University of Sheffield from the Senior Civil Service where he was the Executive Director of the Judicial Office for Scotland, supporting the Lord President of the Court of Session and the wider Scottish judiciary with strategic support and advice across the full range of their activity. He was also the Executive Team lead for civil justice reform for the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service.

Riley has also previously worked in Higher Education governance across the UK, latterly as the University Secretary of the University of Bradford for four and a half years.

Prior to moving to the UK in 2012, Riley worked as a senior lawyer with the Tax Practitioners Board, a national regulatory authority in Australia responsible for the regulation of tax practitioners, following several years working as a fraud and intelligence analyst and compliance auditor with the Australian Taxation Office.

Riley originally graduated in Australia as a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Business and went on to gain a Masters in Law at the Queensland University of Technology.  It was in Queensland that Riley was admitted as a Lawyer.  On moving to the UK, he completed a Bachelor of Laws degree at Stirling University and a Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde.
