The three-year Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship will examine the the political economy of fintech companies.
While new financial technologies are often celebrated for expanding financial inclusion, much less attention has been paid to the ways fintech companies can be shaped by the global actors that fund them.
Under the mentorship of Professor Andrew Hindmoor, the project will investigate how these firms are funded, how they are valued, and how investor expectations shape their organisational priorities.
Particularly, it will look at how the high pressure to attract investment and achieve rapid growth influences their business models, lending practices and approaches to debt collection.
