The Cavendish Foundation Appeal Scholarships
Scholarships are available from the Cavendish Hip Foundation Appeal to support medical students to pursue one year of research into orthopaedics. This can fund either a BMedSci year or a CIMA MRes.
There is a track record in Sheffield of success in this area and all of the BMedSci students supported by the Foundation have gone on to receive first class honours degrees and to continue their medical studies and are approaching core training applications.
They have made national and international presentations and published papers from their work and have won prizes including the British Hip Society President’s Prize. Their excellent CVs make them good ambassadors for Sheffield and the surround region in applications both locally and nationally.
The Cavendish Hip Foundation was established in 1994 and funded 28 orthopaedic surgeons in training. It was so successful that the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has funded these fellowships since 2005. The Foundation has since supported 6 medical students for BMedSci projects relating to hip surgery and plans to continue this.
If you are a medical student and would like funding for a BMedSci or CIMA MRes then contact Professor Mark Wilkinson. If you are donor, then please contact the Foundation’s secretary, Anna Sykes.
