Profile

I was appointed a consultant Intensive Care Medicine & Anaesthesia at STH in 2023 following a two-year fellowship in perioperative quality and safety. Run in conjunction with the Safe Anaesthesia Liaison Group, the Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center this allowed completion of a masters degree in Healthcare Quality and Safety and clinical anaesthetic experience in Boston, Massachusetts.

During this fellowship I developed operational experience in patient safety, in-situ simulation and debriefing. In conjunction with the Center for Anaesthetic Research Excellence at Beth Israel I participated in retrospective cohort research that used routinely collected clinical data to investigate risk factors associated with adverse anaesthetic outcomes and test the large scale impact of QI projects.

Research interests

Since returning to Sheffield I have supervised audit, service review and quality improvement projects for resident doctors of all seniorities, and contributed to larger academic QI projects run by colleagues in our pharmacy department. I am QI lead for the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine’s Professional Affairs and Safety Committee and hope to contribute to the development and widespread adoption of QI in our specialty.
