I trained in Endocrinology in Sheffield, and completed my PhD on Determinants of Peak Bone Mass and Bone Size.

My clinical practice is in metabolic bone disease, especially young adults. 

I am Programme Director for the Sheffield MBChB.

Research interests

My research interests are in bone pathophysiology and microarchitecture, skeletal maturation and ageing, the interactions of fat and bone, and treatment of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases.

  • The effects of obesity on bone and muscle
  • TOPaZ trial in osteogenesis imperfecta
  • MOI-A losartan in osteogenesis imperfecta

Teaching interests

I completed the RCP/UCL Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education in 2012

I am Programme Director of the undergraduate medicine degree. My teaching in the programme includes  lectures and seminars on calcium physiology and metabolic bone disease. 

I also lecture on several Masters programmes in the Faculty of Health. 

I teach regularly on the ECTS PhD training course and Mellanby courses on bone biochemical markers and vertebral fracture.

I am a member of the RCP teaching team, and a tutor on the Doctors as Educators programme.
