Mid-Autumn Cultural Showcase & Mooncake Evening

Join us for our annual Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, featuring collaborative performances by exceptional Chinese artists and local Sheffield performers. Step into an evening of music, dance, and storytelling that honours the rich heritage of this beloved festival of reunion.

About the Night Gather with us to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional time centred around family, connection, and gratitude under the full harvest moon. 

Event Schedule

• 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM | Pre-Show & Mooncake Reception Arrive early to sample a selection of authentic mooncakes and browse our cultural exhibits explaining the rich folklore and traditions behind the festival.
• 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Live Performances Immerse yourself in a dynamic stage show featuring traditional instrumentals, vocal pieces, and breathtaking dance routines. Highlights include a guest performance by the Wanlin Dance Academy, showcasing classical choreography and vibrant traditional costuming.

中国古典舞《花想容·露华浓》

Blossoms in Dew - Chinese Classical Dance 

取意于李白“云想衣裳花想容，春风拂槛露华浓”的诗意意境。舞者以柔美婉转的中国古典舞身韵，将花之娇艳、云之轻盈与东方女性的典雅气韵融于舞姿之间，在花影与春风的意象中，展现含蓄灵动、诗意悠长的东方之美。
 

Inspired by the celebrated lines of the Tang dynasty poet Li Bai  “Her robes are like drifting clouds, her beauty like a flower; the spring breeze caresses the balustrade, where the dew-kissed blossoms bloom.”  the dance captures the poetic elegance of Chinese classical aesthetics.

中国民族民间舞《木卡姆随想》

Muqam Musings Chinese Folk Dance

中国新疆维吾尔木卡姆艺术（Uyghur Muqam of Xinjiang），一种集歌、舞、乐一体的大型综合艺术形式。肇始于中国少数民族民间文化，在吸收汉唐时期西域以及西亚、中亚等地音乐、舞蹈的基础上，经过多元化的兼容并蓄和融合演变而形成。

载歌载舞是维吾尔木卡姆最重要的特色。《木卡姆随想》将以少数民族传统乐器为意向和载体，通过舞者充满激情与张力的律动，将身体与乐声紧密呼应，生动再现维吾尔族人民在年节集体欢跳和欢腾与喜悦热烈氛围。

Uyghur Muqam of Xinjiang is a grand, living tapestry of song, music, and dance. Rooted in the folk traditions of China’s ethnic communities, it has grown through centuries of cultural exchange,absorbing the rhythms and movements of the Han and Tang Western Regions, as well as influences from West and Central Asia,until it blossomed into a richly layered and evolving art form.

Little Immortals  Chinese Classical Dance 

《小神仙》以中国道家文化中的神仙形象为灵感，通过活泼灵动的舞姿与俏皮可爱的神态，生动展现一群天真烂漫的小神仙。舞蹈将孩童的纯真与欢乐融入中国传统文化的意蕴之中，营造出一个充满想象、活力与童趣的奇妙世界。

Inspired by the immortal figures of Chinese Taoist culture, Little Immortals brings to life a group of playful young immortals through lively movements and charming expressions. Blending the innocence and joy of childhood with the spirit of traditional Chinese culture, the dance creates a whimsical world filled with imagination, energy and childlike wonder.

中国古典舞《采薇》

Cai Wei Chinese Classical Dance 

取意于《诗经·小雅·采薇》，以诗入舞，以舞寄情。舞者以含蓄典雅的身韵与轻盈流动的舞姿，再现古老诗篇中的采薇意象，在柔美与悠远之间，诉说对故土、岁月与归途的深深眷恋。

Inspired by Cai Wei from the ancient Chinese classic The Book of Songs (Shijing), this dance brings poetry to life through movement and expresses emotion through graceful choreography. With elegant, flowing gestures rooted in Chinese classical dance, the dancers evoke the timeless imagery of gathering wild ferns, conveying a profound sense of longing for home, the passage of time, and the journey of return.
