What made you want to study your course?

Since around year 10, I have enjoyed the idea of research. For me, looking into an unknown topic, which no one knows the answer to, intrigued me. However, as my school at the time did not have many practical lab sessions, I studied the theory behind these concepts and it was very fun trying to develop models to explain a phenomena. Physics came naturally as, in my opinion, it is the best course to do if you want to explore science overall and understand the scientific method.

What made you decide to study at the University of Sheffield?

The University of Sheffield seemed like it had a good balance between academic rigour and a good social life. Another aspect that influenced my decision was that Sheffield is a renowned university with relevant research being produced.

What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?

So far, the parts that I have enjoyed most about my course are the possibilities to do projects and learn from scratch the foundations of what makes good research and a researcher. The staff have also been incredibly approachable whenever I have had difficulties and needed someone to help me academically.

What skills have you developed during your course?

Apart from all the physics skills you learn in your course, I have had opportunities to develop other skills like problem-solving and teamwork. Before going into university, my public speaking skills were not very good and now that I am in my third year, I have seen how much this skill has improved over the duration of my degree.

What would you say to a student thinking about studying your course at Sheffield?

I would say that you should definitely do it! I have enjoyed my course a lot and I feel prepared to go to the job market and use my skills in a professional setting. But apart from that, I feel that it has been an amazing experience, where I have met many incredible people and have made friends for life.
