During Autumn's time at Sheffield she has enjoyed working on research projects and has learnt new skills, such as coding.

What made you decide to study at the University of Sheffield?

I ended up really liking the atmosphere in Sheffield over the other universities I visited. I also read that Sheffield was a great university and city for queer people and so this was a big factor for me when deciding which universities I was considering.

What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?

I enjoyed working on research projects in third and fourth year, since having a specific goal to work towards allowed me to get really invested in one area of physics. Being able to talk to my supervisors about the topics of my projects also reinforced my interest in them.

What skills have you developed during your course?

One skill that I did not have much experience in before coming to university was coding. Most of my friends were computer science students, but I never really got the hang of it or enjoyed it too much. Since starting my course, I have significantly improved my coding ability and even felt confident enough in my programming skills that I chose a third year project that was almost entirely coding and in a new language that I had never used before.

What would you say to a student thinking about studying your course at Sheffield?

It can be a lot of work at times, but what I found is that it was very rewarding. A lot of the questions I had about how the Universe worked were covered in the course content. The staff on the course are also very nice and understanding.
