Who we are
Migration Research Group (MRG) at the University of Sheffield is an interdisciplinary network of scholars conducting world-leading research on global migration and mobility. We are predominantly embedded in the Faculty of Social Sciences, but our reach transgresses disciplinary boundaries.
Our research is broad ranging and includes the politics and governance of migration, bordering and resistance, motives for migration and the experiences and lives of migrants young and old, the impacts of migration on sending, transit and destination countries, and much more. Together, we seek dialogue and debate to support world leading research.
You can see who studies migration at the University of Sheffield by looking into our members list.
MRG is an institutional member of IMISCOE (International Migration Research Network) - the largest interdisciplinary network of scholars in the field of migration. MRG co-directors participate in IMISCOE governance via the Board of Directors and IMISCOE Editorial Committee.
MRG membership is open to PGR students and academics from any Faculty or department. We are also very keen to collaborate with external and community organisations. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Sheffield MRG, or would like to find out more about how this platform can be used to showcase a diverse range of migration research activities, we would love to hear from you.
