Futures First module
A year-long module for all single honours Management School undergraduate students. This module will get you thinking about your future career right from the outset of your course.
Futures First, or MGT11001, is a module that all first year students studying BA Business Management, BA International Business Management and BA Accounting and Financial Management will take.
The module will give you a structured and supported process to reflect on your own learning, performance and achievement, and to plan for your personal, educational and career development. It is designed to ensure you are fully prepared to gain the most from your academic studies and to be well placed to continue your development throughout and beyond your studies.
Career Development Plan
A key part of this module is the Career Development Plan, a tool developed within the Management School by Dr Sarah Brooks, Academic Lead for Employability and Futures First Module Leader.
The Career Development Plan is a reflective tool designed to encourage you to think about your career from 16 different perspectives which you might not have considered before, e.g. the amount of money you want to earn and how this will support the lifestyle you'd like to lead, or how the opinions of others have influenced your decisions so far. It is designed to ensure you have a future direction and as such can make the most of your time at university by using all experiences to develop skills to support your career goals. It imparts a life-long set of skills which you can use at any time throughout your career to ensure your career is taking you where you want it to. By using the Career Development Plan, you will start to understand that you have control of where you go and how to get there.
